Nor’easters—coastal storms characterized by their northeasterly winds—traditionally occur between September and April, when stark temperature contrasts between cold continental air and warmer Atlantic waters fuel their development. Yet on May 22, 2025, forecasters from the National Weather Service (NWS) warn of 1–3 inches of rain, wind gusts up to 50 mph along the coast, and even wet snow at higher elevations in Vermont and New Hampshire.
